Tendo como uma de suas premissas centrais a internacionalização das atividades de ensino, pesquisa e extensão, o Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação (ICMC), da USP São Carlos, receberá nos dias 23 a 25 de abril a visita da pesquisadora Emília Mendes, do Blekinge Institute of Technology, da Suécia. A finalidade da visita é discutir possíveis convênios de cooperação acadêmica, incluindo o intercâmbio de estudantes de graduação para a Suécia por meio do programa Ciência sem Fronteiras.
Mendes, que atua no Laboratório de Pesquisa em Engenharia de Software da universidade sueca, participará de reuniões coletivas com os grupos de Engenharia de Software do ICMC-USP e da Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar). Fará também reuniões individuais sobre cooperação acadêmica com pesquisadores das duas instituições.
Uma das atividades previstas é aberta ao público, e será realizada nesta quarta-feira, 24 de abril. A pesquisadora ministrará a palestra Are you interested in carrying out your PhD studies in Empirical Systems and Software Engineering at one of the best Universities in the world in these areas? If you are, this seminar is for you. A apresentação terá início às 9h, no auditório Fernão Stella de Rodrigues Germano, no bloco 6 do ICMC.

The Software Engineering Research Laboratory – SERL, is one of the premiere research environments in empirical software engineering, highly ranked and internationally recognized by both universities and among companies. We are successful as we work as a team, but promote and reward excellence. Our University (BTH – Blekinge Institute of Technology) is ranked 6th in the area of “systems and software engineering” by the Journal of Systems and Software for its publications in 2004-2008 and 1st within the European Union. BTH is also a member of ISERN (International Software Engineering Research Network).
Research in SERL is focused on identifying challenges in industry, finding solutions to these challenges in collaboration with industry experts, and making sure that the solutions are evaluated and work in an industrial context. Our research is directed towards the development and maintenance of software-intensive products, systems and services, and focuses on five main areas: i) Software Product Management and Requirements Engineering; ii) Software Architecture; iii) Object Oriented Technology; iv) Verification and Validation; and v) Software Management, Measurement and Quality.
Our research projects can span from working on a project level with agile practices, to the overall management of product and application development.Our PhD students, who all come for different parts of the world thus making SERL a truly international environment, work with relevant challenges posed by industrial partners, which assures that the research is relevant for both a research career and/or a highly qualified position in industry. In addition, the employment rate of our former PhD students is 100% to date, often at top universities or highly qualified positions in industry.
As a member of SERL, you will be working in a dynamic team. Your closest asset is your supervisor – a mentor, a qualified guide, but also a collaborator. As a PhD student you have a lot of responsibility, but your supervisor has a central role as your coach and it is very common that PhD students and supervisors work closely together on almost a daily basis.
